Despite its beauty and grandeur, a large, old, drafty church built in 1925 can be challenging to sell. This one is located in the City of Richmond, in an old established neighborhood and members of the congregation used to walk or take the bus to church so it had NO PARKING. The 24,000+ sq foot building was in shabby condition, needing flooring, paint and more modern heat and air systems. A big project. The highest offer the owners had received in years of trying to sell was $150,000 and that only if they would finance it. The neighborhood was hoping it would sell to another congregation rather than being developed into condos or other creative use, and they got their wish. While many young churches looked at the building, most couldn't come up with the funds or financing required and the sellers did not want to hold a note. A very happy church group purchased this fine building for $286,000, and the sellers were happy, too, with a contract almost double their previous offer.
