Twelve historic raceways across the country are heading to auction as their previous owner prepares to exit the racing business.
Tranzon Atlas, LLC, a real estate auction company, announced on Tuesday, Oct. 6, that it had been hired by Darana Motorsports Holdings, LLC to sell the 12 racetrack and motorsports properties, according to a press release obtained by PEOPLE.
Among the 12 properties is Darana Raceway in Xenia, Ohio, which dates back to 1951, when it first opened as a dirt track. Its quarter-mile dragway followed in 1959, according to local outlet WHIO.
Darryl Cuttell, CEO of Darana Motorsports Holdings, LLC, said the decision to sell came as he found a new vision for his company.
“Our business has taken a different direction from what we originally anticipated, and I have made the decision to exit the racing business through the sale of these properties,” he said in the release. “Our goal is to complete the sale of these properties and our exit from the racing business by the end of the year.”
The properties could appeal to buyers outside the racing industry, too. Tim Mast, president of Tranzon Atlas, said in the release that their locations, size and existing infrastructure could attract developers and real estate investors.
One of the properties, Darana Motorsports Park in Milan, Mich., spans approximately 317 acres, according to Tranzon’s official listing. The property includes a quarter-mile racing surface, a half-mile drag strip, a café and grill and the Milan MX Track.
“It is extraordinarily rare for this many established motorsports properties to come to market at the same time,” Mast said.
