Memphis, TN August 29, 2003 – A series of public inspections

this $2.3 million residence considered one of the best examples of early 20th
century Greek Revival mode architecture in Memphis. Additionally, three
adjacent executive homesites also are available. No minimum bids are required;
the residence and building sites will go to the highest bidder/s.
Located in Midtown Memphis at 1822 Overton Park Avenue, Galloway has five
bedrooms including the 25’ x 20’ master bedroom; three and a half baths, with
the luxurious marble master bath outfitted with gold-plated fixtures; hardwood
floors; hand-painted wall murals and transoms; exceptional millwork and
detailing throughout. It sits on 1.15 acres of well-manicured grounds with
glorious azaleas more than six feet tall.

Tranzon Durnil, a member of Tranzon LLC -- a nationwide accelerated marketing
and auction firm headquartered in Richmond, VA – is conducting The Galloway
Mansion auction sale in tandem with the respected regional realty firm of
Crye-Leike, Inc.
A $5.00 admission charged at the first three inspections will benefit St.
Jude’s, one of the national charities sponsored by Tranzon.
According to Tranzon’s Ed Durnil, who is based in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, the
three-story, approximately 12,000 square foot Galloway Mansion encompasses an
entire city block in Memphis’ stately Evergreen Historical District. Bidders
have the option to buy this residence or one or more of the three in-town
homesites (on three-quarter acres each) that represent some of the last
undeveloped land within Memphis city limits. Again, no minimum bids are
required.
"This is prime real estate, especially considering the scarcity of undeveloped
land in the city. Memphis has experienced a revitalization of its downtown and
people are coming back to enjoy the new attractions. Living in Midtown Memphis,
you have the best of both urban and suburban worlds while still well within
city limits. Benefits include a short 10- to 15 – minute commute to the
commercial district plus the surrounding beauty of Overton Park, created by the
same visionary who designed New York’s Central Park," says Durnil.
Built of solid masonry, the 93-year-old home was completed in 1910 and has nine
gable dormers and a green tile roof. Four massive limestone Ionic columns
support a two-story front portico. Much of the interior was imported from
Europe, including a marble fireplace with an elaborately carved French walnut
mantle in the drawing room featuring life-sized figures.
Galloway last sold in 1998 for $1.3 million. Another million was spent on
restoration and modern updates including installation of powerful central air,
upgraded multi-zoned lighting and high-tech security systems, addition of a
gourmet kitchen with Viking appliances, and creation of a third-floor,
state-of-the-art home media center/playroom.
